Cobh Ramblers FC are pleased to announce that Stuart Ashton has been appointed as assistant manager of our senior side for the 2017 season. Following Darren Murphy’s transition to our u17 setup, Stuart will now assist manager Stephen Henderson for the upcoming League of Ireland campaign.

Stuart moves into the role following a spell as Youth Liaison Manager at Cork City FC, where he has also held the position of caretaker senior manager in 2013. Previously Ashton additionally held the position of u21 manager and u19 manager at the Leeside club. A holder of the UEFA Pro License, he has also played for Cork City in the past and will bring a huge amount of experience to the role. Stuart also has a proven track record of working with young players and this is something that we as a club are committed to. He has helped bring players such as Brian Lenihan, Alan Browne and John Kavanagh through, as well as Ramblers players Craig Donnelan, Jason Abbott and Darren Murphy amongst many others.

Speaking about the appointment, manager Stephen Henderson had this to say,

Stuart has a wealth of League of Ireland experience at both senior and youth level and he has been pivotal in the development of a number of top class players over the years.

Stuart’s appointment fits in perfectly with the Cobh Ramblers philosophy of identifying and developing young players and providing a complete pathway to senior League of Ireland football .

Generally regarded as one of the best coaches in Ireland, Stuart is a holder of the prestigious UEFA PRO licence and this will be pivotal as we proceed to assist all current Cobh Ramblers coaches in obtaining the highest standards of coaching excellence.

I am delighted that Stuart has decided to come on board with us as first team head coach. It is a fantastic opportunity to improve our club by bringing in such a highly qualified and respected individual .

Peter Rowe, Kenny Drew, Shane Kavanagh, Barry O’Sullivan and myself are all looking forward to working closely with Stuart and in dong so creating a hugely positive professional training environment for all of our talented young players.”
