Breaking the Silence Cobh announced as Ramblers Community Partner

Cobh Ramblers FC are delighted to announce Breaking the Silence as the club’s official community partner for the 2018 season.

Breaking The Silence is a Cobh based group specialising in delivering FREE Suicide Prevention Training across the community. Recently the group has also began to deliver Understanding Self Harm Training.  Providing this training free of charge to all members of the community is only possible through ongoing sponsorship and fundraising.  To date the group has trained over 9000 participants in this life saving training.

Cobh Ramblers take a very proactive approach to the wellbeing of their entire team and Coach Stephen Henderson has previously completed training with Breaking The Silence.  As a club we are passionate in driving awareness of all forms of health which includes mental health and suicide prevention.  We also believe that due to the fact that our players are positive role models, that we are uniquely positioned get the message out to even more people locally.

Speaking at the launch Lucas Keating of Cobh Ramblers FC said “It’s great to have Breaking the Silence involved with the club. Come the summer we will have over 100 young players registered in the club and it’s our aim to train as many of them as possible in suicide intervention and prevention through safeTALKS.”

“Breaking the Silence do phenomenal work in the community of Cobh and beyond and we want to make our club a suicide safe club. Many clubs have defibrillators on the wall but often don’t know how to spot the signs of suicide in a person. In my eyes having people trained in safeTALK in a club is as important as having a defibrillator on the wall.”

Speaking at the launch John Mansworth Chairperson of Breaking the Silence said “it is a fantastic opportunity for both organisations to create awareness around suicide prevention and with the club’s commitment to roll out Safetalk training across the players, coaches, management, committee’s and supporters it will make Cobh Ramblers a suicide safer community.
