Abbott and McKevitt Re-Sign for 2023

Cobh Ramblers are pleased to confirm that midfielder Jason Abbott and forward Matt McKevitt have re-signed for the 2024 League of Ireland season.

29 year old Jason captained the club in 2023 and is in his third spell at St Colman’s Park having joined in the 2021 summer transfer window from Munster Senior League side Cobh Wanderers. He also featured at U19 level in 2012 and more recently between 2015 and 2017. With over 100 club appearances to his name, he has also featured for UCC and Cork City in the past.

Matt McKevitt joined the Rams from Avondale United midway through 2023, scoring twice which included our Goal of the Season in the First Division Play-Off final against Waterford. The 25 year old Thurles native first came through Waterford’s academy before joining UCC where he helped the College to the 2019 Collingwood Cup among many honours. He then joined Treaty United for their inaugural League of Ireland season in 2021.

New Ramblers manager Gary Hunt spoke about both players following the news,

“With Jason leading the group last season, I knew that it would be important to make sure I got him over the line. From watching the squad last season you could see the qualities he brought to the team and I am looking forward to working alongside him for 2024. I know he will be one of many who will give their all for the Rams in the season ahead.

Matt is an exciting player and I am looking forward to seeing what he can do. I’m sure with a good pre-season behind him he can really show his qualities in 2024. He will certainly give his all I am sure and that quality alone will go far in a group where hard work will be the absolute minimum requirement.”
