Cobh Ramblers travel to Wexford this Friday night still in the hunt for a precious First Division play-off spot. A heart-breaking last minute winner from Cabinteely gave them all three points against the Rams on Saturday but Stuart Ashton’s side remain just three points off the play-off spots.

With Bray and Drogheda battling for top spot, and Longford and Cabinteely occupying third and fourth, UCD and Galway are the two sides within Ramblers’ reach ahead of the final three gameweeks and almost every fixture in the division is having a huge impact on this exciting play-off race.

Wexford currently prop up the table and come into the game on the back of a 2-0 loss to Shamrock Rovers II. Ramblers were 4-0 winners when the sides met in August at St Colman’s Park and the Leinster men haven’t beaten Cobh since September 2015.

Ben O’Riordan and Darragh Crowley remain injury concerns for the coaching staff while midfielder Dave Hurley is suspended having picked up five yellow cards, meaning he will miss his first game of 2020. Top scorer Charlie Lyons grabbed another goal in the Cabinteely defeat and also continued his record of not missing a minute of First Division action this year.

Speaking ahead of the game, forward Conor Drinan emphasised the team’s aim to get back on track in the play-off race. The former Carrigaline United man has played a key role in his first season with the first team and is anticipating the Friday’s clash,

“Last week’s result was a tough one to take. I felt that overall we deserved something from it but Cabinteely got the winner late on to their credit and we have to move on. We’ll be looking to put things straight this week and get back to winning ways as soon as possible.

We’ve all seen the results in the last few weeks and you can see that there aren’t any easy games in the division. We’ll have to be up for it on the night and hopefully we can come away with the three points.”

Kick-off in Ferrycarrig Park is at 19:45, with the game taking place behind closed doors due to Covid-19 restrictions. Wexford are providing a live stream of the game on their Facebook page, with donations greatly appreciated on their website to cover the costs of the service.

Wexford have also provided an online match programme ahead of the game.

Elsewhere this weekend the club’s U17 side travel to Waterford in the next round of their Elite Phase of the U17 League of Ireland. Kick-off on Saturday in the RSC is at 14:00.
