PREVIEW: Cobh Ramblers v Finn Harps

hpsIt’s the meeting of the bottom two in the First Division this Saturday as Finn Harps make the long journey south to Cobh Ramblers. The Rams remain winless at the foot of the table and will be looking to this game to kick-start their season. The visitors are also on a poor run of form and are without a win in their six last league games.
Both teams exited from the EA Sports Cup earlier in the week. Cobh went down 1-0 away to Wexford Youths while the Donegal men also lost 1-0 on their travels, against Galway. Incidentally Wexford will play Galway in the quarter-finals of the competition.

Cobh are without the injured Andrew Bhandarkar and for the tie. Finn Harps will have to do without the suspended Packie Mailey for the game while Kevin McHugh is also out injured. Ruari Keating may miss out on the game due to injury.

Ramblers captain Martin Deady is one of the most experienced players in the side (at the age of 23) and he had this to say ahead of the game, “Our performances have definitely improved in the last few weeks and the goals will come if we keep creating chances. Finn Harps haven’t been firing on all cylinders lately either so it’s a good opportunity for us to get the three points and kick-start our season.”

Harps boss Olly Horgan spoke about the tie on the Finn Harps website during the week, “We need to score to win on Saturday. Cobh are very difficult to beat in Cork as Waterford and Shamrock Rovers found out. Wexford ran their luck there last week before scraping through on a 1-0 scoreline.”
A win for Cobh would still see them prop up the table on but Harps could climb as high as fourth with three points.

The last time the sides met in March, Finn Harps had a comfortable 5-0 win. A repeat of that is highly unlikely on Saturday and Ramblers will be going all out for revenge.

The other games in the league see leaders Shelbourne travel to Waterford, Longford host Wexford and Galway visit Shamrock Rovers B.
