PREVIEW | Ramblers v Athlone

Ramblers return to home action this weekend as Athlone Town visit St Colman’s Park on Saturday night. Cobh come into the tie on the back of two respectable performances against Drogheda and UCD but are still searching for a first point of the campaign after two defeats. Athlone are in a similar position, having lost 3-1 to Cabinteely in their only outing so far this season.

The Rams were 2-1 winners when the sides last met in July 2019, Stephen O’Leary and Jamie O’Sullivan scoring that night. Athlone’s last win in Cobh came in March that season.

Manager Stuart Ashton is almost back to his full complement of players, with captain John Kavanagh the only doubt ahead of the tie. Forward Conor Drinan is back in full training and in line to make a first team debut.

Speaking ahead of the game young attacker Cameron Harlson is eager to turn the recent performances into results,

“The last two weeks against Drogheda and UCD haven’t gone as planned but we’ve had a lot of positives to take from those games. We are going into Saturday with the same mindset as always, we’re set on taking all three points. We are doing a lot of things right and just need to cut out the small mistakes that we’ve been making against Athlone.”

Match Sponsor: Cobh Credit Union

Matchball Sponsor: John Twomey, Dave Manning, Paschal Kearney and Scott Holden of Hovione.

Kick-off on Saturday night is at 19:00 in St Colman’s Park.
