Ramblers midfielder Pierce Phillips has become the latest player to re-sign for the club ahead of the 2024 League of Ireland season.
The 25 year old joined the club in 2020 from Cork City. He also spent part of the 2018 campaign on loan at St Colman’s Park, which will make the upcoming season his sixth at the club.
Phillips has made over 100 first team appearances in claret and blue, 29 of which came last season. He came through the Rockmount schoolboy set-up, before joining Cork City’s Academy in 2015. He would remain at the club until 2020 when he joined the Rams on a permanent deal.
Gary Hunt had this to say on last year’s vice-captain re-signing,
“It’s great to have another one of our experienced players in Pierce sign on again for 2024. He has become an important part of the club being one of the longest serving members of the team.
From speaking to Pierce I can see how motivated he is to kick on this season and become an integral member of the team and I am looking forward to seeing him back this up which I have no doubt he will.
In general things are starting to piece together now ahead of returning to pre-season next week and I am looking forward to getting to work with the players on the pitch and begin our preparations for 2024. There are still a few areas of the pitch we want to address and we will keep working hard to do that. We also had a very strong U19 team last season and I will be looking to see which of those lads take their opportunity when it arrives. These are the future of our club and I am keen to show all our young players that there is a pathway to the first team when they are ready.”
