Midfielder Lee Devitt has become the latest Cobh Ramblers player to commit to the club for 2021, signing a new deal this week until the end of next season.
The Clare man and Newmarket-on-Fergus native initially progressed through the academy set-ups at Shannon Hibernians and Limerick FC, playing U17 and U19 football for the Blues. He made his Limerick senior debut in 2019 before joining Cobh for the 2020 League of Ireland campaign. The 20 year old featured in every single game across all competitions for the club this year (21 games), one of only two players to do so, the other being centre back Charlie Lyons. He also scored twice this year, both goals coming in the 4-0 home win over Wexford FC in August. Indeed that could have been a hatrick but the dubious goals committee deemed the opener that night as an own-goal!
Speaking to the Ramblers media team, Lee had this to say, “I’m delighted to have signed back for the coming season and I can’t wait to get going again. It was disappointing last year to miss out on the play-offs but we were all eager to build on it and put it right next year. I’m looking forward to the challenge ahead and the first game of the new season just can’t come around quick enough!”
Lee joins Sean Barron, Naythan Coleman, Darryl Walsh, Stephen O’Leary, Conor Drinan and Martin Coughlan in re-signing for next year, with plenty more announcements to come shortly.
