Cobh Ramblers defender Charlie Lyons has become the latest player to re-sign for the 2021 League of Ireland season. The 20 year old defender joined the club from Preston North End in 2019, and made 24 appearances that year. He then featured in all 21 of our games in 2020, the only player to do so alongside Lee Devitt.

Charlie began his career at Innishvilla and impressed for the Cork Schoolboys League team. He then made the move to Championship side Preston North End as an apprentice, where he spent two seasons within their U18 setup. He returned to Cork in 2019 and linked up with the Rams, where he will now spend a third season.

The centre back scored four times last season, which saw him finish as the club’s top scorer during the shortened 2020 League of Ireland campaign.

Speaking about the news, Charlie had this to say, “I’m delighted to have signed back. We’re all really looking forward to the new season already. It’s a big year for the club and hopefully we can push on now.”

Charlie joins Ian Turner, Pierce Phillips, Sean Barron, Lee Devitt, Naythan Coleman, Darryl Walsh, Stephen O’Leary, Conor Drinan and Martin Coughlan in re-signing for next year.
