Cobh Ramblers vs Athlone Town Preview

Cobh Ramblers will be looking to maintain their unbeaten start to the season as they take on Athlone Town at St Colman’s Park this coming Saturday afternoon.
Ramblers narrowly missed out on the chance to go top of the table last weekend when Shelbourne equalised with the last kick off the game, however manager Stephen Henderson is taking the positives from that game.
“We’ve had a great start, we’re unbeaten, and we’ve played two of the favourites for the title. Players are getting fitter. We’ve been really unfortunate with the last minute goals we’ve conceded against Shelbourne and against Wexford in the opening game. We’re getting better. We see it ourselves, and we see it in our training sessions. We’re thrilled with the start that we’ve had, we’re disappointed we’re not top of the league but we’ll take it.
“People thought we’d be near the bottom of the table at this stage. But we’re reminding people that we’re still there. Is there another story to be told this year? I think so.”
Third placed Athlone Town sit just above Ramblers in the table, and Henderson says they’ll be expecting a tough game on Saturday afternoon.
“They’ll come down with a good side, they’ll try to play football. But we’ll be ready for them.”
imageFormer Cork City player Cian Coleman signed for the club this week and is set to go straight into the squad for Saturday’s game, and Henderson is delighted to have the talented midfielder at his disposal this season.
“Cian is an excellent addition to the squad. He will bring quality and determination to the team on the pitch and in training sessions.”His versatility is a bonus but also very important for our small squad. Competition for places is getting stronger and the players know that the lads not starting at the moment are ready and able when they’re called upon to come in.”

Darren Murphy (ankle), Cian Kingston (hamstring) and Ian Mylod (ankle) will miss Saturday’s game, while Dean Swords (foot) and Ryan Hogan (back) are doubtful.
Kick off this coming Saturday afternoon is at 3pm at St Colman’s Park.
