Cobh Ramblers FC are delighted to announce the appointment of Darren Dennehy as the club’s U17 manager for the 2020 League of Ireland U17 season.
Originally from Kerry, Tralee native Darren signed for Everton as a schoolboy before spells at Cardiff, Gillingham and Barnet. He returned to Ireland in 2013, playing for Cork City, St Pat’s and Limerick before retiring in 2019. The defender amassed over 100 LOI appearances in that time and has undoubted experience in the Irish game.
The 31 year old is eagerly awaiting the new year ahead and had this to say regarding the news,
“I’m really looking forward to it. It’s something that I’ve looked at getting into for a while and this is the perfect opportunity. The underage League of Ireland has been great for young players and hopefully I can help continue their development.
Last year’s team did very well and we have a few of those players still underage for this season which is always a help. We want to build on that and continue to compete with the best teams in the country.”
His brother Billy is also a manager in the U17 League of Ireland, currently taking charge of the Kerry side that took on Cobh three times last season.
Darren replaces the outgoing Marc O’Donovan-Wyatt who leaves the role. We would like to thank Marc hugely for his time at the club and we wish him the very best in his new journey.
Darren’s backroom staff, as well as details regarding the U17 squad, will be made available within the coming weeks.
