Match Preview | Ramblers visit Wexford

Cobh Ramblers travel to Ferrycarrig Park this Sunday in their final away game of the regular First Division season. While Sunday fixtures were once commonplace in League of Ireland circles that is no longer the case and this is the first time in many years the Rams will play such a tie.

Shane Keegan brings his squad to familiar territory, having guided Wexford to the league title back in 2015. It’s also a return for Jack Doherty, who joined the Rams from Wexford prior to this campaign. Indeed a goal for Jack would see him reach 18 for the league season, the most ever by a Cobh player in a League of Ireland campaign. Kieran O’Reilly’s tally of 17 in the 2005 season currently holds the record but that could change soon.

This pair have met three times so far this season, with a 2-1 win apiece and a 2-2 draw in the last meeting at St Colman’s Park. The Rams come into the tie on the back of a 2-0 win at home to Longford, while Wexford were 2-1 victors at Kerry last week. Both sides are in form, winning four of their last five outings. These sides will also likely meet each-other in the First Division play-offs, with Cobh currently sitting third and set to host the second leg of the tie as a result. That still could change were Wexford to claim all three points here however.

Ramblers remain without Tiernan O’Brien through injury but Dale Holland and Brendeán Frahill should return from suspension. Pierce Phillips completed his return from injury in the recent victory over Longford.

Kick-off in Ferrycarrig Park is at 15:00, with the game being streamed live on LOITV.
