Cobh visit Cabinteely | Preview

Cobh Ramblers are back on the road this Friday night, visiting Cabinteely in what is the third last game of the 2021 season.

The sides have met twice this year, with both previous results ending in a 1-0 win for the home side. Conor Drinan’s late header secured Ramblers three points when the pair met in St Colman’s Park in July.

A win would be an end-of-season boost for either side, with Cobh currently ninth in the table and ‘Cabo’ sitting one place better in eighth. The Rams come into the tie on the back of a 1-0 loss to Galway, while the Dubliners were defeated 2-1 by Athlone in their last outing.

Ramblers goalkeeper Corey Chambers could come up against his former side, having spent the 2020 First Division season at Stradbrook

Cobh manager Darren Murphy will be without the suspended duo of Nathan O’Connell and Regix Madika who both received red cards last week against Galway. Charlie Lyons remains absent through injury while Pierce Phillips, Conor Drinan and Sean Barron remain doubts.

Ahead of the tie Darren Murphy looked ahead to what should be a tight game in Stradbrook,

“Last week was tough to take. It’s a defeat at home. But we’ve got to drive forward. The lads are ready to go again and keep working hard. We’ll go up on Friday looking to progress even more and get a result. All we can do is our best when we get there.

We’ve three games left. There are points there for us. Cabinteely are a good side, I know Pat Devlin very well. They are a bit like us, honest, hard-working lads, maybe not the biggest budget. It should be a good game and a real battle between the teams.”

Kick-off is at 19:45 on Friday night, with the game being streamed live on LOITV here.
