Cobh Ramblers Lift Munster Senior Cup with Dominant Performance
Cobh Ramblers secured the Grandons Toyota Munster Senior Cup at Turner’s Cross on Monday evening, defeating Rockmount 2-0 and with wins over Douglas Hall & Cork City!. Mick McDermott’s side showcased a relentless attacking display, with first-half goals from Shane Griffin and David Bosnjak proving decisive.
Rockmount, who had previously upset defending champions Waterford in the semi-finals, were unable to replicate their giant-killing form against a superior Cobh Ramblers outfit.
Match Events and Key Moments:
- 12th Minute: Goal for Cobh Ramblers (Shane Griffin) – Oisin Barry, Rockmount’s goalkeeper, parried a shot from Samuel Bellis, and Shane Griffin was perfectly positioned to slot the ball home from close range, giving Cobh an early lead.
- Following the opening goal, Cobh Ramblers elevated their intensity, with James O’Leary being a driving force in their attack.
- James O’Leary had a stunning strike that went just over the bar, and a cross he delivered almost resulted in an own goal by Rockmount’s Cian Murphy.
- 35th Minute: Rockmount’s Ian Mylod made a strong run into the Cobh defense, which was ultimately thwarted by a stern challenge.
- Dying seconds of the first half: Goal for Cobh Ramblers (David Bosnjak) – Cobh’s sustained pressure at the end of the half paid off as David Bosnjak neatly tapped in from a corner, doubling their lead just before the break.
- Halftime Substitutions for Cobh Ramblers: Barry Coffey and Luka Le Bervet were introduced, adding further pace and attacking impetus to the Cobh side.
- Second Half Chances: Cobh continued to create opportunities, including a close-range effort from Bellis that was blocked. Barry Coffey also had a goal disallowed due to offside.
- 75th Minute: Rockmount pushed for a goal, with Kieran Keneally poking an opportunity wide at the back post.
- Cobh Ramblers effectively managed the closing stages of the game by retaining possession, aided by the introduction of Jonas Hakkinen, who bolstered their midfield.

- Rockmount: Their season continues with a Beamish Stout Senior Cup game against Ringmahon Rangers on Thursday.
- Cobh Ramblers: Their focus shifts back to their promotion push in the League of Ireland First Division, with an upcoming match against Athlone Town in Lissywollen on Friday night.
