Cobh Ramblers have today announced the signing midfielder Steven McCarthy.

McCarthy was most recently at English Premier League side Sunderland where he completed a two year scholarship programme.  He hails from Skibereen in West Cork and started his career with his local club Skibereen FC, picking up Irish caps at u15 and u16 level. A number of cross-channel trials followed until he was snapped up by the Black Cats at the age of 16. He quickly became a key player for their u18 side and became a regular in the Republic of Ireland u19 team while at the club.

Following the end of his scholarship, Steven returned to Ireland and was most recently on trial with Cork City, playing against Cobh in a friendly midway through last season. Still just 19, McCarthy has huge potential and could become a very promising player for the club. He can play up front or on the wing.
