Once again Ramblers had to plan without John Meade who failed to recover from the injury that kept him out of the previous game in Waterford; furthermore they had to plan without the services of Brian Fitzgerald who was serving the automatic ban as a result of the red card received in the RSC.

Rambler’s first real chance of the first half arrived after 20 minutes but Mikey O’Shea fired wide from a good position. On 35 minutes Conor Meade forced a good one handed save from Graham Doyle in the Wexford goal before going close once more from a corner.

The second half began in quiet fashion but on the hour mark Daryl Power got clear down the Ramblers right and his low cross was turned into the net by substitute Eric Molloy to give the home side the lead. A mere 3 minutes later Ramblers were given a lifeline when Wexford Youths striker Joe Mulcahy was shown a straight red for a mistimed tackle. Unfortunately the dismissal had the opposite effect for Ramblers and the home side doubled their lead on 73 minutes when Eric Molloy was played in and his effort on goal was deflected past Robert Birdsall. Worse still was to happen when the home side added a third a mere three minutes later when Aiden Keenen headed home a close range free kick at the far post.

Ramblers thought they had pulled one back but the effort was ruled out for offside. Overall, Ramblers were made to pay for passing up some decent first half chances as the home side gained some revenge for their 5-0 reversal in Cobh on the opening day of the season
