Cobh Ramblers have added experienced defender Damian O’Rourke to their squad for the new season.
He began his career with Cork City’s youth side in 1999/00. He won their u18 player of the year that season as they won the league and cup double. Damian went on trial with Preston but returned to Cork City’s first team in 2000/01
He played for City’s first team for two seasons, making over 40 appearances, before going to the US on a four year soccer scholarship.
After graduating in 2007, Damian returned to Ireland and signed for Mervue United at the start of the 2009 season, making 25 appearances in the club’s debut League of Ireland season.
He remained at the club until 2012, making only 21 appearances in three seasons before terminating his contract.
He is a solid defender who will bring plenty of experience to a young Cobh side. He is the first signing this year who was not previously at the club. It is a shrewd signing by interim boss Martin Cambridge and there may be some more new faces coming in at St Colman’s Park before March 8th.
He is expected to be in the side for tomorrow’s friendly with his former club Cork City along with Martin Deady, Rob Waters and Mikey O’Shea who were not signed in time for the Munster Senior Cup loss to Douglas Hall.
