Ramblers face table-toppers

Cobh Ramblers host league leaders Longford Town on Saturday night looking to continue their recent revival. (Kick off 7:45)
Dave Hill’s side have picked up five points from their last three games with a superb 3-0 home win against Wexford Youths followed by a battling 2-2 draw with Finn Harps and a scoreless draw last weekend against second-placed Athlone Town.
Ramblers were forced to travel to their last two games with only 14 players but the squad is set to be boosted by new arrivals this weekend.
Former Cork City defender Craig Burns is the only new signing to have appeared so far due to registration issues but that should change on Saturday night with all of the new signings now eligible.
James Carson is the only fresh injury doubt through illness and Dave Hill is confident his side can keep their recent run of form going.
Hill said: “We’re not scared of any team in the league and, if we do the job right, I’m expecting a good performance and a good result.
“It’s very important (to keep the run going) especially with the new signings that are coming in, they’ll be strengthening the squad and we’re looking for a good result tomorrow night against Longford.
“The aim is to push on from here, we’ve had three good results and if we can continue in that vein of form then I can’t see any reason why we can’t move up the table.“
A win could move Ramblers to within two points of third bottom Finn Harps, who face a difficult trip to Mervue on Friday night.
Longford, managed by Tony Cousins, have already beaten Ramblers twice this season, a 5-1 rout at the City Calling stadium and a 4-3 reversal at St.Colman’s Park, a game that Cobh had led 3-1.
Hill said: “They’re top of the table but we should have beaten them at home the first time we played them and the scoreline away from home was quite flattering for them.”
Longford travel south with a four point lead at the top of the table but without suspended duo Willie Tyrell and Keith Quinn and the Midlanders may not be as fresh as the hosts after playing a fundraising friendly against a Celtic XI on Thursday night.
