Cobh Ramblers u19s got the 2017 campaign off to a flying start today with an impressive 3-1 at home to Shamrock Rovers. Under the guidance of new manager Dec Coleman for the first time, the Rams took all three points on offer at a sunny St Colman’s Park.

Cobh were ahead on 15 minutes thanks to an excellent strike from midfielder David Hurley. The former Ringmahon Rangers man did well to beat Luca Gratzer from range in the Rovers goal. The Dublin side equalised soon after through Dean Dillon’s neat finish from close range. That ended the scoring in the first half in what was an entertaining 45 minutes.

A ferocious strike from debutant Patrick Crowley ten minutes into the second half saw Cobh take the lead. The ex-Cork City attacker had enough power in his effort to beat Gratzer and restore our lead. Despite the Rovers side including senior players Sam Bone, Shane Hanney and Aaron Dobbs, it was the Rams who continued to impress. Conor Gleeson made the Dubliners’ task even harder when he was dismissed for a second yellow card. Pop Crowley wrapped up the scoring late on with another goal from distance as Ramblers began the season with a  solid home victory.

“It was a good win and a great performance to start the season with. It was a very competitive game and we learned a lot as the game went on. It gives us plenty to build on, while also having a bit to work on in training. Overall we’re very happy with it.”
